Counselling and psychotherapy in East Dulwich, South East London
I was originally trained as an Integrative Body Psychotherapist. Body Psychotherapy is a form of therapy that aims at the integration of body and mind. Conflicts and tensions in our daily lives affect our emotions as well as our bodies, posture and mannerisms. We are not just our minds, we are not just our bodies; we are a body-mind system where one reflects the other. Our emotional state affects the way our body carries itself and vice versa.
As well as the verbal interaction typical in any psychotherapy or counselling session, I'm also trained to make use of different ways of accessing unconscious material. I may use touch when it feels appropriate, guided imagery and Gestalt dialogue to deepen the psychotherapeutic process.
All of this is viewed through the therapeutic relationship - the nature of the interaction between client and therapist - which I believe is what holds the therapeutic process together. It is designed to help client growth and development and has the flexibility for the dynamics that arise between client and psychotherapist.
